The real treasure in this jewel of a game is that it had all-out support for modding from the very beginning.
The editor programs Runic used to make these games, TorchEd (TM) for Torchlight 1 and GUTS (TM) for Torchlight 2, were made available to the general public and, as they say, the rest is history.
Today there are more than 2,000 mods for Torchlight 2 alone with another thousand or so for Torchlight 1.

A little history
In 2009 an indie game developer company calling themselves Runic Games launched Torchlight, a dungeon-crawler they completed in just 11 months that managed to push all the right ARPG buttons.
Three years later they followed that up with Torchlight 2 launched in 2012. The second game was even more polished and featured peer-to-peer online coop play which, unfortunately, was buggy. Nonetheless, it's a solid ARPG that will keep you entertained at whatever level of immersion you are after.
